Boardmasters

Bringing a festival to life at every corner of the site.

The brief

Boardmasters is the UK’s largest surf and music festival, welcoming 50,000 people to experience the laid-back coastal vibes of Cornwall.

Since 2017, we’ve been tasked with designing, building and installing the full site decor to create a cohesive identity across the event, from stages to secondary spaces and wayfinding.

Our approach

We worked closely with production, creative, brand partnerships, marketing and site teams at every step of the process.

Taking the time to understand how each area of the site would be used and how audiences would move through it allowed us to design, build and install every element with intention.

Every piece connected to the brand without feeling repetitive, and sustainability was built in from the start, with responsible materials and demountable structures. This means that all items built can be reused or repurposed year after year, evolving with the festival (and protecting budgets).

The result

We worked with the Boardmasters team year after year to build a festival site with a strong, cohesive identity, one that was immersive for the audience at every turn.

We took inspiration from the local area: Cornish markets, coastal culture and surf towns from around the world, blending the festival’s identity with the surrounding area.

Over 8 years, we returned each year to reuse, refresh and add new elements, an approach that reduces waste, protects budgets and builds a stronger experience every time.
